The Judgement Team (you know...the people in the background!)

I was recently taking a peek at Tommy Ton's (amazing!) street style photographs on style.com taken during Milan Fashion Week. I could not help but be fascinated by the reactions of people in the background of the photograph looking awkwardly at the glamorous subjects who are being shot. Even to this day I still get a little bit skeptical about something as minimal as wearing heels in downtown Toronto! Let's face it: people passing still look at you funny when you wear heels or anything that remotely grabs onlooker attention. Who made these rules!? People think you are insane for wearing heels in the middle of the day unless you work in an office (and even if you do, they are only considered okay if they are less than four inches!) Yikes!

Heels are just one of the many examples. I am talking about anything (the most hilarious reactions occur when you pull out that winter cape!) Yup, it's like a firing squad standing in front of Van Gogh's first painting! Perhaps the message that the onlookers are sending to us is, "Sure, wear something bizarre, but don't expect us not to judge you and take double takes at you." Then again, you may argue that I am contradicting myself since good fashion is meant to be exactly that -- a head turner!
